How It All Started

Years ago my wife and I were travelling countries like New Zealand, southern France, Italy, Iceland and Norway. We were staying in more and more unique airbnbs that just stripped away at the concepts of luxury accomodation and were completely paying respect the landscape and scenery. I really loved that as a landscape and Astro photographer.

The most memorable BNB, I stayed at was pretty remote cabin in Western Iceland where there were no bedrooms, and the shower was only accessible by going out into the winter storm and going into the stone basement! But that was also one of my favourite places because it featured one floor to ceiling window which framed the snow capped mountain in front of us just perfectly.

So I set out to find something where I could watch sunsets, star gaze and really just take in the land.  When I came to inspect this property, I asked to come a day early and camp overnight. I took one shot on my camera and the Milky Way just burst out of the lens. It was amazing.

I am a big science fiction fan and a big gamer. Nos Astra is Latin for "we, the stars" and comes from a specific location in one of my all time favourite games.

I was also really inspired by the recycled shipping container movement and really wanted to do something where I could give life to something again, doing our part to reducing waste.

So that's the story of how we got to where we are today. Still lots of love to give to the place as there are plenty of things to still finish off inside and outside.

I am growing a lot of jacaranda and trying to propagate Sakura and wisteria right now as well. Those trees have really inspired me and I hope there is a special place I can find for them on the land. Though I might be very old before I see them fully mature!
